Grey Wing Press was created in honor of a beloved member of our family, an African Grey parrot named Crusher. For many years, she was a constant, joyful presence in our home: clever, expressive, mischievous, and endlessly entertaining. When she passed suddenly not long after the pandemic began, our hearts were broken.

 

Anyone who has known an African Grey understands their extraordinary intelligence and the deep bonds they form. Crusher was no exception. Her personality filled our days, and losing her left a quiet space that took time to understand and accept.

 

But even in grief, she left us with something enduring: a desire to help protect these remarkable birds in the wild.

In Crusher’s memory, my husband and I began supporting conservation efforts for African Greys, especially rescue and rehabilitation programs that give trafficked or injured parrots a second chance. One organization we care deeply about is the Limbe Wildlife Centre, which rescues African Greys seized from the illegal wildlife trade, rehabilitates them, and, whenever possible, returns them to their natural habitat.

 

African Greys are known for their soft grey plumage, bright red tails, and astonishing intelligence. They have suffered greatly from exploitation and habitat loss, and supporting their protection has become a meaningful part of our lives.

Grey Wing Press is my way of carrying that meaning forward.

 

As I continue my journey as an author, a portion of the proceeds from my books will be donated to support reputable rescue and rehabilitation programs for African Greys. My hope is that every story published under Grey Wing Press honors Crusher’s memory and helps, in some small way, to safeguard birds like her around the world.
